SpongeBob SquarePants is an American animated television series created by announcer, marine biologist, and animator Stephen Hillenburg. The series tells adventures and tales about the main character SpongeBob and his friends in a fictional underwater city in the Pacific Ocean called "Group Bottom". The idea of designing the character of SpongeBob for Hillenburg came in 1984 while studying marine biology at the Ocean Institute, Dana Point, California, USA, where he wrote the tidal zone script in which he embodied marine life forms, including the spongebob. Hillenburg left the institute to become a broadcaster in 1987, and subsequently joined the California Institute of the Arts in 1992.

He began developing SpongeBob into a television series in 1996 after the cancellation of a series called "Rocco's Modern Life", and the matter moved to a person named Tom Kenny, who worked with Hillenburg on the development of the series to express the main character in it.
